Robots or Reality? The Emergence of Sentience

As the time that the iHumans spent on the Earth increased, the line distinguishing human behavior and robotic behavior began to blur.  The more that the iHumans interacted with people, the greater understanding they had for human behavior.  In their interactions with humans, their robotic “minds” started to pick up on the way that humans would think and interact.  These observations fed their robotic wavelengths and taught their humanistic qualities to expand and grow.  Likewise, as the robots became increasingly human-like, actual humans began to lose qualities of their everyday lives.  They started to mimic the behavior of the robots.  As the people became accustomed to the iHumans doing work for them, they began to lose their sense of life purpose and personality.  They became careless, and their interactions with robotic artificial life seemed to alter their view of how they should behave and interact.  They lost social skills and their personalities gradually became numb, as they began to go through life like it was a system without any feelings or thoughts.  As time continued, the distinguishing traits between the iHumans and real humans deteriorated, and resulted in a disastrous planet where God’s creation of the Earth is turned completely upside down. 

                The daily lives of the humans completely changed, and the human race forgot how they previously lived before their assistance of artificial life.  They lost all motivation to work, provide for families, and maintain their health.  iHumans began to take over their occupations, receive an education, and develop technology in the replace of the humans.  Their robotic minds became so advanced that they were able to continue the creation of more artificial life of their kind, and the iHumans seemed to completely take over the Earth and all of its responsibilities.

                In the time of this extreme social change, there were few people who recognized the danger that continued to arise.  As the years went by, there was the occasional group of Apple employees who managed to salvage enough of their human intelligence to understand that humans were, in essence, becoming obsolete.  Like the man in Plato’s allegory, they were able to open their eyes to recognize the new reality that the human race was almost useless to the modern society.  In their efforts to inform the people of the dominance of their technology, the humans did not believe them.  The human’s lack of thinking was clear in their incomprehension of the world’s recent social change.

                While the humans failed in their efforts to stop the continuous production of iHumans, the iHumans themselves were developing feelings of anger and betrayal from their creators.  In the extended time that the robots had interacted with humans, they started to obtain their feelings and emotions that went along with certain life problems.  They became offended that some of the Apple employees wanted to cease the production of iHumans.  They became angered not only because they had developed an individual mindset with and ego and self-accomplishment, but they also cared about the other iHmunas and did not want anything to happen to them.  As their emotions grew stronger, the spine of the iHuman would light up.  The brighter their spine shone, the stronger they felt.  As the years continued, their understanding for human though and emotions continued to increase.  The shine of their spines became brighter, and it became a permanent physical trait of the iHuman.  With the ability to feel emotions, there was nothing more that the iHumans needed to obtain in order to control the entire world, forcing the human race to become outdated.

                Ultimately, the interaction between the natural life and the artificial life became the ultimate downfall for the human race.  The humans lacked the recognition for a daily life schedule, and their thought process slacked because of the work that the robots would complete for them.  The more the robots worked for the humans, the more they began to act and feel like humans, showing emotion and care for others of their kind.  The robots became a reality to the human race and their sentience they learned from their creators helped them to achieve power and dominance over the world.

The First Creation Story: “The Second Generation”

And on the sixth year after hard work and repeated failure, Apple created the iHuman, and finally, it was good.  Just as it took God time to create the world, it took Apple many years to build their robot.  However, on the seventh year, they rested and watched their product ring-in profit, changing the entire course of the universe.

The iHuman is a robotic technology that takes the shape and form of human life, performing tasks and operations that were previously only capable by people.  The iHuman has embedded chips that can listen to sound and voices, comprehend what it hears, and react accordingly.  The iHuman can communicate with actual humans, both verbally and through “body” language.  Also, the iHumans are capable of conversing with each other through eye contact, through lasers and microchips in their pupils. 

Although they can think for themselves, they are designed to assist actual humans in their everyday activities.  They are marketed to target potential consumers with busy lives, who could use an extra mind and body to help with their to-do list.  The iHumans follow commands such as washing the dishes, doing the laundry, returning phone calls, or filing papers.  They even have the intellectual capacity to study and do homework because Apple’s technology allows them think with their own “mind”.  As practical as the iHuman may sound, it is this individual robotic mindset that’s created the potential destructive change to the entire world.

The iHumans worked well from the beginning.  Unlike most state-of-the-art technological advances that are created with flaws, the years of work to create the iHuman seemed to pay off as Apple’s product began to take off exactly as they hoped.  The robots were able to follow the commands of the consumers, interact with the people they came across, and problem solve to their own ability.  Just as the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica, the iHumans became their own species that appeared capable of almost anything.  Their popularity grew rapidly.  Production increased and they began to multiply and fill the Earth; it was the creation of the world’s “Second Generation”.   Within these robots, for better or for worst, was Apple’s creation of the very first form of artificial life.

In 2020, I will be 27 years old.  I will have graduated from college and started a career. 
In 2029, I will be 36 years old.  I will hopefully be married, with one or two young chidren.
In 2045, I will be 52 years old.  My children will be grown, and possibly will be my age right now.  My life will be devoted to my family and my career.

Outline of Genesis and Plato

Genesis

1.  God created the world

• He did not do it over night; it took time.  He did it over six days

2.   The heavens and Earth were finished and on the 7th day he rested.  This is the Sabbath
3.  Adam and Eve

• God gave them instructins and they disobeyed
• They were not allowed to eat from the tree of knowledge
• Adam fell into the disobedience because Eve told him it was okay
• The punishment helped them to learn the difference between good and evil
• There is a value of learning from your mistakes but you still pay for your consequences

4.  Cain and Abel

• Cain kills his brother Abel
• The lord puts a mark on Cain so that no one who comes across him can kill him
• A long line of decendants came from Cain, all who were affected by Cain killing his brother

5.  Adam's Decendants to Noah and his sons

•  All humans were created under good.  They were all good, and the were called "Humankind"

6. The Wickedness of Humankind

• The Lord regrets making Humankind because they sin and they can be evil
• Since God saw the Earth as eveil, it became more evil and he decides to wash out the sins
• He tells Noah to build an ark and put two of every animal on it

7. The Great Flood

• The Lord tells Noah to pack up the ark
• just as the Lord created the Earth in seven days, he drestroyed it in seven days by flooding everything

8.  The Flood Subsides

• God restores the Earth for Noah and the creatures on the ark
• Noah lets all of the animals go so they can multiply to fill the Earth
• God states that never again will he destroy every creature on the Earth

9.  The Covenant with Noah

• God promises Noah that he will never again flood the Earth.  He states that no one shall harm another human, because everyone is made in Humankind.

10.  Nations Decended from Noah

• After the flood, there came many decendants
• From these decendants came nations and kingdoms
• The Earth seems to replenish after the flood

11.  Tower of Babel

• The people built a tower to the heavens
• The Lord scattered the people all around the Earth and confused the languages
• The people continued to multiply

*Battlestar is like Noah's arc because just like Noah took 2 of everything, they only let certain people on the ship



Plato

• tells a story to a man about a bunch of prisoners
• if the people walking by saw their shadows, that would be the only way they would live.  they would never see actual objects
• if they showed these people the real person, would they believe that eality was actually a reality
• people are forced to look at the wall... one of them gets out.
• he goes up (because the people are in a cave)
• he hurts his eyes, he has a hard time accepting the new reality
• he goes back down, and the people do not believe him
• he goes from the darkness to the light, then he goes back to help the people who are still there

Adjusting to Siena Life

After six weeks of being on campus at Siena, I am very pleased with how I have adjusted.  Over the summer, I had many concerns about managing time between playing a sport, going to classes, and getting all of my work done.  Also, I was concerned about leaving my friends and family at home.  However, although I do miss home, I have been enjoying my time here at Siena and have met so many new and wonderful people.  I have established true friendships in the short time that I have been here, and I have found a routine of how to study, where to study, and how to balance the very little free time I have.  After all of my concerns this summer, i can now say with confidence that Siena is absolutely the right place for me, and I am very happy here.
